Here at Hop to Pop, we love all things rabbit — from fuzzy bunny slippers to bunnies in songs, movies, and pop culture. But most of all, we love real rabbits! That’s why we’re thrilled to spotlight these six amazing rabbit rescue organizations that work year-round to rescue and care for bunnies across the United States. In fact, we’ve been proud to support each of these groups as a sponsor over the past several years. Hop hop hooray — let’s meet the heroes!
San Diego House Rabbit Society
Location: San Diego, California
Mission: For over 30 years, SDHRS has supported San Diego and surrounding communities through sheltering, fostering, and providing adoption services, as well as educating about responsible rabbit care.
Get Involved: For folks in the San Diego area, there are lots of volunteer opportunities, from rabbit care at the shelter, becoming a foster, to packing hay, and more!

Party On: Every September, SDHRS hosts the ultra fab outdoor Bunnyfest! With a silent auction, bunny art, educational lectures, bunny photo booth, crafts, and vendors… this event is tons of fun, and all proceeds go to the rabbit rescue. Win-win! This year’s event is September 21, 2025.

Ohio House Rabbit Rescue
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Mission: OHRR rescues abandoned pet rabbits, offers an adoption program, and provides educational resources and programming on the proper care of rabbits as indoor companions.
Get Involved: You can volunteer to help in several ways, including Bunny Socialization (helping rabbits get used to people before being adopted), to vet drop-offs and pick-ups.

Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary
Location: Whittaker, Michigan
Mission: Since 1995, GLRS has rescued rabbits from Michigan and beyond, providing a safe haven for abandoned, abused and neglected animals. When rabbits arrive at GLRS, they receive medical care, are spayed/neutered, and are then ready to meet their potential adopters. Any rabbits who are not adopted live the rest of their lives at the sanctuary.

Party On: This year, attend the June Jubilee to celebrate 30 years of GLRS! This fabulous event, held on June 29, 2025, will feature a vegan taco bar, margarita bar, activities for kids, creating enrichment toys for rabbits, product giveaways, and tours of the renovated facilities!

House Rabbit Network
Location: Westford, Massachusetts
Mission: HRN is made up of over 150 individuals who are champions of rabbit rescue! For over 25 years, volunteers have cared for sick and abandoned rabbits, and helped them find forever homes. They address all aspects of owning and rescuing rabbits: bonding services, bunsitting, fostering, spa days, and education on new bunny ownership.

Bunny Lu Rabbit Rescue
Location: Waynesboro, Virginia
Mission: These bunny heroes take in at-risk rabbits from shelters and surrenders, and find them indoor homes where they will be loved and cared for. They also provide bunny sitting services for bunnies whose people are on vacation!

Rabbit Advocates
Location: Portland, Oregon
Mission: Serving the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA areas since 2002, Rabbit Advocates rescues rabbits, provides adoption services, sets up foster homes for bunnies in need, and educates the community about keeping pet rabbits healthy and happy!
